Lead Data Scientist (12 Month Contract)
Description
Job title: Lead Data Scientist Consultant – 12 month consultancy contract
Responsible to: Senior Director, Commercial Technologies
Department: Commercial Technologies
Location of work: Kensington Village
Main Purpose of Role
Key Responsibilities will include:
• Product Owner and developer for “labs” prototyping area
• Create algorithms and then prototype into our “Labs” for testing along with handing over those that are successful for productionising
• Study user behaviour, demographics, content types, and a variety of different music streaming platforms to analyse ways to increase Universal Music’s market share
• Work with the Commercial Technology team on their core platforms and discover ways of using data to maximise revenue opportunities
• Combine data sources with insights to monetize our long-tail catalogue
• Work closely with our Data Science teams in LA and London
• Support for existing data platforms
• Attending hackdays
Person Specification

As Lead Data Scientist – Commercial Technologies you will use data to gain a deep understanding of music and listeners to create algorithms and platforms to increase Universal Music’s market share. You will study user behaviour, strategic initiatives, markets, content, and all streaming platforms to certain methods of increasing UMG revenue.
Key skills & personal qualities:
• Extensive experience of data mining tools and algorithms, machine learning and statistics (e.g. regression, decision trees, neural networks, collaborative filtering, clustering, survival analysis, graph theory, etc.).
• Expert analytic abilities using SQL, R and other tools (e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.)
• Working knowledge of cloud-based data environments & tools (e.g. AWS, Big Query, Hadoop, etc.)
• Development skills in Python and Javascript (e.g. D3)
• Demonstrated ability to lead data projects from initial problem statement through to benefits realisation
• Effective communicator at all levels with great presentation skills
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with business partners and colleagues
• Capable of tackling very loosely defined problems
• Creative, outside the box thinking and problem solving approach
• High energy and enthusiasm
• Knowledge of music repertoire very useful
• Music technology experience beneficial
Experience:
• Significant experience in a similar data analyst/scientist role and a degree in science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or similar quantitative discipline.
Education:
• BA, Masters or PhD in computer science, statistics or operations research (or other similar field)
