Full Time Job
The Nickelodeon digital team is seeking an exceptional product lead to manage a team of product managers responsible for the Nick digital portfolio, which includes the Nick app on six platforms (and growing!) and Nick.com. Our mission is to make the world a more playful place and we believe our digital experiences are one of our best opportunities to do this. But we will only achieve this if we’re doing our best creative work—making a mess, having fun, experimenting a lot, keeping it fresh, and finding the kid inside us.
The director of product for Nick is a complex but exciting role that requires good judgment to know where to spend your time. Some days you will spend on product vision and roadmap—pointing everyone in a direction that results in better entertainment for kids, and striking the optimal balance between focusing on “the now” vs. “what’s next.” Other days you may focus on your organization of (for now) three product managers—setting a tone of positivity, creativity, inclusiveness, accountability, new approaches and high-performance. And in between those moments you will be an ambassador of your product to stakeholders and peers, and an ambassador of your stakeholders’ and peers’ POVs to your product team.
In success, your products are uniquely Nickelodeon and entertain kids better than anything else in the world.
How To Win at This Job
• You successfully manage, mentor and grow a team of product managers—teaching both the hard skills (e.g. story writing) and the softer skills (e.g. leadership).
• You keep everyone focused on our best opportunities by maintaining a roadmap that prioritizes the game-changers over the distractions.
• You make space for important conversations—raising the altitude when the team is in the weeds.
• You create urgency.
• You’re self-motivated to take charge yet constantly seek opportunities to collaborate and delegate.
• You deliver accurate, timely and concise feedback.
• You work closely with user experience design, engineering, project management, consumer research and brand design to create extraordinary products.
• You advise on agile design and software development methods to maximize creativity and minimize process overhead.
• You intimately understand and consider the intricacies of a high-traffic, consumer-facing, responsive web and native app portfolio.
• You leverage qualitative consumer insights (ethnographic, usability) and quantitative (analytics, a/b testing) data to drive the product discovery process.
• You live at the intersection of design and technology and have a passion for working directly with customers.
• You’re self-aware and successfully communicate at varying altitudes within the organization.
• You have techniques for encouraging exploration.
• You worship the challenge of aligning people’s assignments with their skills and interests.
• You create a safe environment for unsuccessful solutions with the understanding that these often lead to the best solutions.
• You are unafraid to have your opinion changed (strong beliefs, loosely held).
• You relentlessly advocate for your consumers and persistently remind us that no business priority can be an excuse for a mediocre experience.
• You value research and data and know that most of the answers can be found in a better understanding of our audience.
• You are intrigued by kids and how they discover the world.
• You value research and data and know that most of the answers can be found in a better understanding of our audience.
